How much does a banner cost? Real prices by size and material
A 3 x 6 ft vinyl banner typically costs about $30 to $85 before shipping. Here is what drives the price, per-square-foot figures from our October 2026 survey, store vs online prices, and a calculator.
Short answer: in October 2026, a single 13 oz vinyl banner from an online printer cost about $17 to $60 for 2 x 4 ft, $31 to $85 for 3 x 6 ft and $55 to $109 for 4 x 8 ft, before shipping and tax. The middle of the market works out to roughly $2 to $2.60 per square foot for standard vinyl. Heavier vinyl, mesh and fabric cost more, small banners cost more per foot, and shipping can add $10 to $20 to a small order.
Those figures come from our own survey of public prices on October 26, 2026. Below is how banner pricing works, so you can tell a fair quote from an expensive one, plus a calculator for any size.

Estimate your banner
Our banner cost calculator turns any width and height into a low, typical and high estimate, adjusts for material, and adds finishing if your printer charges for it. It is built from the survey above, so treat it as a sanity check before you collect real quotes.
What drives the price
1. Size (but not in a straight line)
Price rises with area, but every banner also carries fixed costs: file handling, a proof, finishing, a tube or box and packing. On a small banner those fixed costs are a big share, so a 2 x 4 costs more per square foot than a 4 x 8. In our survey, the median dropped from about $2.58 per square foot at 2 x 4 ft to about $2.06 at 10 x 10 ft.
2. Material
| Material | Typical use | Price vs 13 oz vinyl |
|---|---|---|
| 13 oz scrim vinyl | Most indoor and outdoor banners | baseline |
| 18 oz blockout vinyl | Double-sided, long outdoor runs, big tensioned banners | about 1.3x |
| 9 oz mesh vinyl | Fences, windy sites, building wraps | about 1.6x |
| Polyester fabric | Backdrops, indoor displays, photos | about 1.4x |
Those ratios come from one printer's published price table for the same sizes (UPrinting's "How Much Does a Banner Cost?" page lists, for a 2 x 4 ft banner, $20.79 for 13 oz, $27.70 for 18 oz and $33.83 for mesh). Other printers' ratios differ, but the order holds. Material choices are explained in the vinyl banner buying guide and mesh vs vinyl.
3. Finishing: hems, grommets and pole pockets
This is the most common reason two quotes don't match. Some printers include hemmed edges and grommets in the price; others list a lower price without them and charge extra. On October 26, 2026:
- Included: 1 Day Banner (hem and grommets), BannerBuzz (metal grommets), Signs.com (welded hem and grommets every 2 to 3 ft), Best of Signs (heat-welded edges and brass grommets).
- Extra: UPrinting (on a 3 x 6, hemming +$4.31; hemming plus grommets every 2 ft +$8.34), Vistaprint (grommets +$4.00, or +$3.20 during its sale), Staples (4 grommets +$6.00 on a 2 x 4), BuildASign (optional grommet sets).
When comparing, add finishing to the no-frills prices before you decide.
4. Sales that never end
Several large printers show a permanent-looking automatic discount: BannerBuzz showed 40% off, BuildASign 25% off and Vistaprint 20% off on the day we checked. The "regular" price is mostly an anchor. Compare the price you would actually pay.
5. Shipping and turnaround
- Free-shipping thresholds of $99 or $100 were common (BannerBuzz, BuildASign, Signs.com, Vistaprint). Best of Signs advertised free shipping on every order.
- Below the threshold, shipping a single rolled banner can cost $10 to $20. UPrinting quoted $14.98 standard shipping on a small banner to a Phoenix ZIP code.
- Rush production and overnight shipping can cost more than the banner. Order early.
6. Quantity
Per-banner prices fall when you order several of the same design. If you need banners for multiple locations or events, ask for a quantity quote.
7. Design
Uploading your own print-ready file is free. Printer design tools and templates are usually free too. Paying a designer typically adds a flat fee. Our banner design guide and file setup guide cover doing it yourself.
Store vs online: Walgreens, Staples and Walmart
Retail photo and office stores are convenient for same-day banners but offer few sizes and charge more per foot:
- Walgreens Photo sold vinyl banners in 2 x 6, 2 x 8 and 3 x 9 ft, listed "from $41.99", with same-day pickup at select stores. Paper (bond) banners were $31.99 for 2 x 6 ft and $36.99 for 2 x 8 ft. Step by step: make a banner in Canva and print it at Walgreens.
- Staples listed scrim vinyl banners at $48.00 for 2 x 4 ft, $85.05 for 3 x 6 ft and $94.95 for 3 x 8 ft, with free same-day pickup when ordered by noon. Its largest size was 3 x 8 ft.
- Walmart Photo sold satin and polypropylene banners (not vinyl) from 2 x 3 to 2 x 8 ft; a 2 x 4 ft was $21.96 to $24.96.
If you need it today, a store is worth the premium. If you can wait three to seven days, an online printer is usually cheaper, especially at 3 x 6 ft and up.
What does a "cheap" banner skip?
The lowest prices are usually honest, but check:
- Is the material named (13 oz scrim, 18 oz blockout, mesh) or just "vinyl"?
- Are hems and grommets included, and how far apart?
- Is the ink rated for outdoor use?
- Is there a proof before printing?
- What happens if it arrives damaged or misprinted?
Our custom banner spec checklist lists what good looks like for each.
Ways to spend less
- Choose a standard size. Custom sizes often cost the same per foot but some printers charge more.
- Pick 13 oz unless you need more. It suits most banners up for a few months.
- Combine orders to reach a free-shipping threshold.
- Order early and choose standard shipping.
- Make it reusable: leave dates off so you can hang it again next year.
