How to make a banner in Canva and print it at Walgreens

Yes, you can design a banner in Canva and have Walgreens print it, often the same day. We checked Walgreens Photo's site on October 26, 2026: it sells three kinds of banner, accepts your own finished file as a JPG, PNG or PDF, and publishes trim and safe-area sizes for each banner. The catch is that Walgreens offers only a few sizes, and if your Canva file doesn't match one of them exactly, the banner gets cropped or stretched.

What Walgreens prints (October 2026)

Walgreens says same-day pickup on paper banners is available for 2 x 6 and 2 x 8 ft at some stores; mail delivery and ship-to-store are the alternatives. Which to choose: for anything outdoors or anything you'll reuse, choose vinyl. Paper banners are cheaper but tear and won't survive rain. Step 1: Set up the right size in Canva

In Canva, choose Create a design → Custom size, change the units to inches, and enter the trim size Walgreens publishes for your banner:

Those trim and safe sizes come from Walgreens' own banner design guidelines. The safe area is about 1 inch in from each edge (a little more top and bottom on the 3 x 9). Anything outside it might be trimmed.

If Canva says the size is too big

Canva limits custom designs to 8,000 pixels on a side and 25 million pixels in area. A 2 x 6 ft design usually fits. Longer banners such as 2 x 8 or 3 x 9 ft may turn the size fields red. If that happens, design at exactly half size, keeping the same shape:

• 2 x 8 ft: design at 48 x 12 in
• 3 x 9 ft: design at 54 x 18 in

Export as a PDF (vector text and shapes scale up cleanly) and Walgreens will scale it to the banner. Photos in a half-size design need to be twice as sharp, so use the original high-resolution photo files.

Step 2: Design for a banner, not a phone screen

Canva's banner templates are a good start, but most are built for screens. Adjust them:

1. One main line, as big as the height allows. On a 24-inch-tall banner, that is 5 to 8 inches tall.
2. Run the background to the edge. Color and photos should fill the whole canvas so no white strip shows after trimming.
3. Keep text, faces and logos inside the safe area. Turn on Canva's rulers and guides (View → Show rulers) and drag a guide 1 inch in from each side.
4. Use bold fonts. Thin scripts look elegant on a phone and disappear at 20 feet.
5. Check contrast. Dark text on a light background, or white on a deep color. Avoid text over a busy photo.
6. Use real photos, not screenshots. Upload original camera or phone files. A screenshot from social media is too small for a 6-foot banner.

Step 3: Export from Canva

Choose Share → Download and pick:

• PDF Print (best): keeps text and shapes sharp. If Canva offers it, tick flatten PDF to avoid font problems. Canva may also offer crop marks and bleed; leave crop marks off for Walgreens, since its builder handles trimming.
• PNG (fine): choose the largest size available. Canva's free plan allows standard downloads; paid plans can scale up.
• JPG (smallest file): choose the highest quality.

Walgreens accepts JPG, PNG or PDF uploads for its business banners. If one format fails to upload, try another.

Step 4: Upload to Walgreens Photo

1. Go to Walgreens Photo and open Banners (or Business Printing → Business Banners → Vinyl for the 3 x 9 ft size).
2. Choose the banner type (paper, adhesive or vinyl) and the size that matches your Canva file.
3. Choose Upload your design (not a template), and add your file.
4. Check the preview carefully. Make sure nothing important sits near the edge and that the image fills the banner with no white bars.
5. Choose same-day pickup (if your store offers it for that product), ship to store, or delivery.
6. Order early in the day if you need it by evening; same-day products depend on the store's machine and staff.

Common problems and fixes

• Banner came out cropped: your Canva size didn't match the Walgreens size, or text was outside the safe area. Fix the size and resubmit.
• Blurry photo: the photo file was too small. Use the original, or make the photo smaller on the banner.
• White edge: the background didn't reach the edge of the canvas. Stretch it past all four edges.
